Morpheus8 vs Secret RF: Which RF-Microneedling Device Is Right for You?

← Back to Blog

Morpheus8 and Secret RF are the two most widely-marketed RF-microneedling devices in the US aesthetic market. Both deliver radiofrequency energy through fine insulated needles into the dermis to trigger collagen remodeling. Both have FDA clearance. Both produce real results. But they are not the same device, and the differences matter for specific indications. This guide explains how each works, where each performs best, and how to decide which is right for your situation.

The basic engineering

Morpheus8 is manufactured by InMode (Israel/USA), FDA-cleared in 2020 in its current generation. It uses 24-pin and 40-pin gold-plated insulated needles with controlled depth from 1 mm to 4 mm in 0.5 mm increments. RF is delivered as bipolar energy at 1 MHz, with real-time impedance monitoring and a Burst mode that delivers sequential pulses at three depths during a single needle insertion.

Secret RF is manufactured by Cutera (USA), FDA-cleared in 2017. It uses 25-pin and 64-pin needles with depth from 0.5 mm to 3.5 mm. RF is delivered as bipolar energy at 2 MHz. Secret RF does not use Burst mode; it delivers a single pulse per insertion at a fixed depth.

Where Morpheus8 wins

  • Deep tissue remodeling. The 4 mm depth setting reaches subdermal adipose tissue, which is where Morpheus8 produces its strongest jowl and submentum results. Secret RF's 3.5 mm cap means it doesn't reach this depth — it's more dermal-only.
  • Burst mode efficiency. Treating three depths in a single insertion means a Morpheus8 session can apply more energy across more layers in less needle-stick count. This translates to less bruising and a more complete remodeling stimulus.
  • Body protocols. The FDA clearance for subdermal adipose use makes Morpheus8 the appropriate device for body indications (abdomen skin laxity, post-weight-loss tightening, knees, arms). Secret RF can do superficial body work but isn't the right tool for deeper body protocols.
  • Impedance feedback. The real-time impedance monitoring adjusts RF delivery based on actual tissue response, which produces more consistent outcomes across patients with varying tissue characteristics.

Where Secret RF holds its ground

  • Superficial dermis indications. For pores, fine textural irregularity, and superficial acne scarring — the indications that live in the top 2 mm of the dermis — Secret RF's narrower depth range matches the indication directly. The extra depth of Morpheus8 isn't necessary at this layer.
  • Faster sessions. Without Burst mode and with simpler depth settings, Secret RF sessions are typically 5–10 minutes shorter for equivalent face area.
  • Slightly lower price point at most clinics. Cutera's hardware costs less than InMode's, and clinics often pass that through with a 10–20% lower per-session fee.

How to choose

The honest framing patients should hear during a consultation: the choice depends on what you're treating.

  • Choose Morpheus8 if: jowls, neck, jawline laxity, body indications, deep acne scars, you want the deepest available RF microneedling.
  • Choose Secret RF if: texture refinement, pore size, superficial acne scarring, mild dermal aging — you may also pay slightly less for these specific indications.
  • Most patients with combined concerns: Morpheus8 is the more versatile choice because it covers Secret RF's range plus deeper protocols.

The Lima context

Both Morpheus8 and Secret RF can be found at Lima clinics, with Morpheus8 the more common offering. As we explain in our dedicated post on real vs imitation devices, the bigger risk in Lima isn't choosing between Morpheus8 and Secret RF — it's choosing between a real device and a Chinese RF-microneedling clone. Verify the device brand, model, and serial before booking.

Why Elyzea is different in Lima

Three things separate Elyzea from most "Morpheus8" providers operating in Lima and across Latin America:

  • The genuine InMode Morpheus8 device. Not a Chinese RF-microneedling knockoff sold under a similar-sounding name. The real device is FDA-cleared, has gold-plated needles with controlled depth from 1 to 4 mm, real-time impedance monitoring, and an InMode service contract for calibration.
  • An MD anesthesiologist on-site. Topical numbing alone is not enough at the depths Morpheus8 actually needs to remodel dermis. Having an anesthesiologist on staff means we can run proper depth settings without forcing patients to grit through pain — and patients get the result they paid for.
  • A full clinical setup with a recovery room. Treatment room, anesthesia bay, dispensary, and a private rest area where you can decompress for 30–60 minutes before heading back to your hotel. Not a single-bed spa room.

Pricing for both at Elyzea

Per prices.md, Elyzea offers genuine InMode Morpheus8 at S/2,000 (~US$571) per facial session and S/3,000 (~US$857) per body session. We do not currently offer Secret RF; for patients whose indication genuinely fits Secret RF better, we are transparent about the comparison rather than steering you to a tool that's not the right fit.

FAQ

Can I do Morpheus8 and Secret RF in the same protocol?

Possible but rarely useful. The indications they best treat overlap enough that running both is usually redundant — the stronger choice is to commit to one device's full protocol and add a different modality (HIFU, picosecond, peels) for complementary effects.

Are the numbing protocols the same?

For superficial Secret RF settings, topical-only is usually adequate. For deeper Morpheus8 protocols (3–4 mm), tumescent local or deeper anesthesia is typically warranted — which is part of why on-site anesthesia capability matters.

How many sessions do I need?

Both devices: typically 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart for first-time patients, with a maintenance session at 9–12 months.

Bottom line

Morpheus8 is the more versatile device for patients with deeper concerns (laxity, jowls, body, deep scars). Secret RF is competitive for superficial indications. The honest answer is "depends on what you're treating" — and the right consultation should map your concerns to the right device, not steer you to whatever is in the room.
