Complete Dark Spot & Pigmentation Treatment

Picosecond laser + chemical peel + depigmenting protocol — combined for lasting results

Facial spots — sun damage, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — rarely disappear with a single treatment. They need an integrated approach: lighten existing pigment, slow melanin production, and protect the skin from the sun for life. This program combines all three.

How it works

Phase 1 · Week 1-2

Diagnosis and preparation

Medical evaluation with Wood's lamp to identify pigmentation type. Start of at-home depigmenting protocol:

  • SPF 50+ daily
  • Topical depigmenting actives
  • Strict sun-protection guidance
  • Routine adjusted to your skin phototype
Phase 2 · Week 3-14

In-clinic treatment

Technology combined per case:

  • Picosecond laser: 3-5 sessions every 4 weeks
  • Interspersed chemical peel (optional, only if Dra. Geldres indicates)
  • For melasma: low fluence, spaced sessions
  • For sun spots: higher power, fewer sessions
Phase 3 · Ongoing

Maintenance and prevention

Skin is lightened, but without maintenance spots can return. Sustaining protocol:

  • Daily SPF 50+ for life
  • Topical antioxidants (vitamin C)
  • Maintenance session every 6-12 months
  • Annual clinical review

Types of pigmentation addressed

Sun spots (lentigines): The most common in Lima due to accumulated UV exposure. Respond quickly to picosecond laser — can lighten significantly in 2-3 sessions.

Melasma: Hormonal pigmentation, more complex. Requires conservative protocol (low fluence), strict sun protection, and more spaced sessions. It can be lightened but not fully eliminated — it's a multifactorial condition that's managed, not cured.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH): Dark spots left by acne, bites, or previous inflammation. Responds very well to picosecond combined with topicals.

Accumulated sun damage / photoaging: Not a single spot but uneven overall tone. The complete protocol improves global uniformity and luminosity.

What to expect

Lightening is progressive. Typically:

  • ✦ Week 4 (after 1 session): initial spot temporarily darkens, then begins to lighten
  • ✦ Week 8: 30-50% lightening in simple sun spots
  • ✦ Week 12: 60-80% lightening in typical cases
  • ✦ Week 16+: uniform skin with active maintenance protocol
