How does tadalafil work?
Tadalafil belongs to a group of medicines that support blood flow to the penis. During sexual arousal, that increased blood flow can help you achieve an erection and keep it.
Two points are worth being clear about. First, tadalafil does not cause an erection on its own: sexual stimulation is still needed. Second, it does not increase desire. Tadalafil is not for everyone. The pellet is not for you if you:
- Take nitrates, such as nitroglycerin or isosorbide dinitrate, in any form.
- Take any heart medication.
- Have severe heart disease.
- Have recently had a heart attack or a stroke.
- Have severe low blood pressure.
- Have severe liver or kidney disease.
- Have a known allergy to tadalafil.

Dra. Geldres places the pellet personally, under the skin, with local anesthesia. It is a quick procedure, in an appointment of about 30 minutes.
An effect that lasts months
The pellet releases tadalafil gradually and lasts 3 to 6 months. When the effect wears off, you can have a new one placed.
You don't need lab tests; if you already have recent results, you can bring them to your appointment.
The placement is an outpatient procedure: when it is done, you carry on with your day. Dra. Geldres gives you instructions for caring for the area over the following days.

For erectile dysfunction: it can help achieve and keep an erection with sexual stimulation. It does not increase desire. For men only, in 50 mg or 200 mg doses.

Aftercare after the placement
- Keep the area clean and dry, and follow Dra. Geldres's instructions about the dressing.
- Avoid intense exercise, swimming pools and saunas for the first few days.
- Mild discomfort or a small bruise in the area for a few days is normal.
- If a doctor is about to prescribe you a new medicine, especially nitrates or heart medication, tell them you have a tadalafil pellet.
- Do not combine the pellet with other erectile dysfunction medication without Dra. Geldres's approval.
- In a medical emergency, tell the healthcare staff you have a tadalafil pellet.
Possible side effects
Like any medicine, tadalafil can cause side effects. The most common ones are usually mild:
- Headache.
- Facial flushing.
- Nasal congestion.
- Back or muscle pain.
- Indigestion.
Warning signs: seek urgent medical care immediately
- An erection that lasts more than 4 hours (priapism). It is a medical emergency: go to the emergency room without waiting for it to pass.
- A sudden loss of vision or hearing.
