One full ablative session is often enough for moderate concerns. Severe acne scars or deep photoaging may need 2–3 sessions spaced 8–12 weeks apart. Dra. Geldres maps the realistic plan at the consultation.
Days 1–3: redness, swelling, weeping. Days 4–7: peeling and pinpoint crusting. Days 8–14: pink baby skin, makeup-friendly. Full barrier recovery and sun resilience: 6–8 weeks. Strict SPF 50+ and zero sun for 8 weeks is non-negotiable.
CO₂ carries higher post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk on Fitzpatrick IV–VI than picosecond or Morpheus8. Conservative settings, pre-treatment with tyrosinase inhibitors, and strict sun avoidance reduce — but don't eliminate — the risk. For Fitzpatrick V–VI, Morpheus8 is often the safer first choice.
CO₂ for severe textural concerns (deep acne scars, advanced photoaging, deep wrinkles) where ablative depth matters. Morpheus8 for moderate concerns or darker skin tones. Picosecond for pigment, melasma, and tattoos — not a resurfacing alternative.
